When it comes to Vinyl, the two options are WPC or SPC but what does that mean? First, what do these acronyms stand for?
WPC is a wood plastic composite and SPC is a stone plastic composite. Why is this important? Both flooring provide different traits that may be better suited for your individual needs. WPC will settle to the contours of your floor overtime where as SPC will stay rigid which means your subfloor needs to be as smooth as possible. WPC has the ability to dampen sounds better and is softer underfoot than SPC and is generally manufactured with recycled product making it the more eco friendly of the two. WPC will also expand more than SPC which means it shouldn’t be fitted into areas too tightly or it will buckle.
SPC is slightly more waterproof although both material are great for water resistance and neither will have issues as long as spills are cleaned up in a timely manner. SPC has the edge in resistance from scratches or dents and is used more frequently in commercial settings with higher foot traffic. SPC doesn’t expand as much as WPC so the risk for buckling is less. Most SPC is also suitable for in floor heating as long as the proper requirements are met.
